What your results can mean
Reading your report
Results are reported for each organism; partners may also need testing and treatment, so discuss results with your doctor.
If the result is outside the usual range
A positive result can point to trichomonas, gonorrhoea or a yeast infection, which can cause discharge, burning or itching. Candida can also be found without symptoms, and a negative urine test does not fully rule out these infections.
Who usually has this test
People with genital discharge, burning or itching, and some people screened before fertility treatment.
Risks and aftercare
There are no risks; if the result is positive, your sexual partner may need testing and treatment too.

Questions about this test
Is a urine test as good as a vaginal swab for these infections?
For women, a vaginal swab usually finds these organisms more reliably. A urine test is easier to give and is often used for men.
Does my partner need treatment if I test positive?
Trichomonas and gonorrhoea are sexually transmitted, so partners usually need testing and treatment to avoid reinfection. Candida is not usually treated as a sexually transmitted infection.
Can these infections affect fertility?
Untreated gonorrhoea can spread to the womb and tubes and damage them, which can affect fertility. Trichomonas and Candida are less linked to infertility but can cause discomfort.
