Questions about this test
What symptoms can high manganese cause?
Too much manganese over time can affect the brain, causing shaking, stiffness, slow movement or mood changes, which can look like Parkinson's disease. These problems are mainly seen with heavy work exposure or liver disease.
Why is a special tube used for a manganese test?
Manganese is present in tiny amounts, and ordinary tubes or needles can add traces of metal. Labs use metal-free tubes so the sample is not contaminated.
Can food or supplements raise manganese?
Manganese from a normal diet rarely causes problems. Very high supplement use or contaminated water can raise levels, so tell your doctor about any supplements you take.
