Questions about this test
Does an eye ultrasound hurt?
It should not hurt, as the probe rests lightly on your closed eyelid. Tell staff if it feels uncomfortable.
Why is an ultrasound used when the eye is cloudy?
If a cataract or bleeding blocks the view, a doctor cannot see the back of the eye with a light. Ultrasound can still show whether the retina is in place.
Do I need to remove contact lenses?
Yes, take out contact lenses before the scan. Bring your glasses if you need them to get home.
