Questions about this test
What does HBeAg positive mean in pregnancy?
It means a higher chance of passing hepatitis B to the baby. Doctors may check the viral load and suggest medicine in late pregnancy, plus vaccine and immunoglobulin for the baby at birth.
Can HBeAg turn negative on its own?
Yes. Over time many people lose HBeAg and develop anti-HBe, which usually signals lower virus activity. This is called seroconversion.
Does HBeAg negative mean I no longer need check-ups?
No. Some people stay active with a negative HBeAg because of virus changes. Your doctor will still check liver tests and viral load.
