A positive anti-HBe usually goes with lower virus activity, especially after HBeAg has turned negative. Some people still have active liver disease, so viral load and liver tests are also checked.

Who usually has this test

Questions about this test

What is e antigen seroconversion?

It is when HBeAg disappears and anti-HBe appears. It usually means the virus is less active, and it is one goal of hepatitis B treatment.

Does a positive anti-HBe mean I am cured of hepatitis B?

No. If HBsAg is still positive, the infection is still there, even if less active. Cure is usually judged by loss of HBsAg.

How often are HBeAg and anti-HBe checked?

Your liver specialist decides based on your liver tests and viral load. Many people are checked once or twice a year.
