Can antibiotics or eye drops affect the result?

Yes, recent antibiotics can stop germs growing in the lab. Tell the staff about any treatment, but do not stop it without your doctor's advice.

Why does the report mention germs that are normally there?

The nose and throat carry harmless bacteria. The lab and your doctor focus on germs known to cause infection.
