If the result is outside the usual range
A high level can be seen with bacterial infection, injury, surgery or inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. It does not show where the inflammation is, so doctors look for the cause.

Questions about this test
What is the difference between CRP and hs-CRP?
Both measure the same protein. The standard test looks for higher levels with infection or inflammation, while hs-CRP measures very low levels used in heart risk checks.
Can a viral infection raise CRP?
Yes, but usually less than bacterial infections. Your doctor reads it with your symptoms.
How quickly does CRP fall after treatment?
CRP usually starts falling within days when inflammation settles. Repeat tests can show whether treatment is working.
