Aspergillus antibody test

If the result is outside the usual range
A raised IgE can point to an allergic reaction to the mould, such as allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis in asthma. A raised IgG can point to a long-term Aspergillus lung infection, often in people with old lung damage.

What is allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis?
It is an allergic reaction to Aspergillus in the airways, usually in people with asthma. It can cause wheeze, cough with brown plugs and lung damage if untreated.
Why are people with past TB tested for aspergillus?
Old TB cavities can become infected with Aspergillus, which may cause cough or coughing blood. An IgG test helps detect this.
Is Aspergillus common?
Yes. It is a mould found in soil, dust and decaying plants. Most people breathe it in without harm.
