Questions about this test
When should I have pregnancy blood tests?
Most are done at the first antenatal visit, ideally in the first trimester. Your doctor may repeat some later in pregnancy.
Why is my blood group tested in pregnancy?
If you are Rh negative, you may need extra tests and an anti-D injection to protect this and future pregnancies. Your doctor will explain what applies to you.
Is HIV testing part of routine pregnancy screening?
HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis screening are routinely advised in pregnancy in India. Treatment greatly lowers the chance of passing infection to the baby.
