Questions about this test
What do IgA, IgG and IgM do?
IgG is the main long-term antibody, IgM is the first made in an infection, and IgA protects the lining of the gut and airways.
Can low IgA cause problems?
Many people with low IgA have no symptoms, but some get more infections. Low IgA can also affect some coeliac disease tests.
Why might a high IgG lead to more tests?
A high IgG can be from long-term inflammation or from a single abnormal antibody. Further tests tell them apart.
