Questions about this test
Why is HCV RNA tested after a positive antibody?
The antibody stays even after the virus has gone. The RNA test shows whether you still have an active infection that needs treatment.
What does sustained virological response mean?
It means HCV RNA is still not detected 12 weeks after finishing treatment. This is generally taken as cure.
Should hepatitis C be treated before pregnancy?
Doctors usually advise treating hepatitis C before pregnancy, as the tablets are not routinely used during pregnancy. Discuss timing with your doctor.
