Questions about this test
Can a blood test screen for cancer in women?
Most tumour markers are not reliable for screening healthy women. Screening uses tests such as Pap smears and mammograms, as advised by your doctor.
Can endometriosis raise CA-125?
Yes, endometriosis, fibroids, periods and pregnancy can all raise CA-125. This is common in women having fertility treatment.
What happens if a marker is high?
Your doctor may repeat it, order a scan or refer you to a specialist. A single high marker is not a diagnosis.
