What your results can mean

Stress, pain and some medicines can raise levels, so your doctor may also order metanephrine tests.
If the result is outside the usual range

Questions about this test
Why do I need to rest before the test?
Standing, moving or feeling anxious can raise adrenaline quickly. Resting lying down helps the result reflect your usual level.
Is this the main test for phaeochromocytoma?
Most guidelines now prefer plasma or urine metanephrines, which are more stable. Adrenaline may be measured alongside them.
Can medicines affect adrenaline levels?
Yes, some blood pressure medicines, antidepressants and decongestants can affect results. Tell your doctor about all medicines, but do not stop any without advice.
