TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) test
Quick answer: A TSH test measures thyroid stimulating hormone, which the pituitary gland makes to control the thyroid, and is the main first test of thyroid function. Questions about this test
What TSH level is good for getting pregnant?
Many fertility doctors aim for a TSH in the lower part of the normal range when you are trying to conceive or having IVF. The exact target depends on your history and antibody results, so ask your doctor what level they are aiming for.
Should I take my thyroid tablet before a TSH test?
Ask your doctor, as practice varies. Many doctors ask you to give the sample first and take the tablet afterwards on that day, and to test at a similar time each time.
Can I do a TSH test without fasting?
Yes. Fasting is not usually needed for TSH, although a morning sample is often preferred for consistency.
