Questions about this test
Why is a morning sample sometimes preferred?
Iron levels are higher in the morning and fall through the day. A morning sample makes results easier to compare.
Can iron tablets affect the result?
Yes. Taking iron in the day before the test can raise the level. Ask your doctor whether to delay your dose.
Why is serum iron not used alone?
It changes a lot from day to day. Ferritin and other iron tests give a clearer picture.
