Questions about this test
Can mumps affect male fertility?
Mumps after puberty can cause painful swelling of the testicles. Most men recover, but in some cases it can lower sperm production, so a semen analysis may be advised.
Is a swab used for mumps instead of blood?
A cheek swab for viral PCR is often used early in the illness. Blood tests are also useful, especially IgM.
Can vaccinated people still get mumps?
Yes, though illness is usually milder. That is why a positive IgG does not always mean complete protection.
