Questions about this test
Why is hepatitis E more serious in pregnancy?
In pregnant women, especially later in pregnancy, hepatitis E can sometimes cause severe liver failure. Pregnant women with jaundice are usually assessed urgently.
How can I lower my risk of hepatitis E?
Drinking boiled or treated water and eating freshly cooked food lower the risk. Outbreaks are linked to contaminated water supplies.
Is hepatitis E long term?
In most healthy people it clears on its own. It can become long term in people with very weak immunity, such as after organ transplants.
