How this is worked out

Exact calculationArithmetic on the numbers you enter. If your inputs are right, this figure is right.

Total journey cost sums fresh cycles and frozen transfers, because most people need more than one attempt. Frozen transfers cost considerably less than fresh cycles, as there is no stimulation or retrieval involved.

Common questions

Why plan for more than one cycle?

Because most people need more than one, and deciding upfront how many you can fund makes the decision easier than reassessing under pressure each round.

Are frozen transfers cheaper?

Usually considerably, because there is no stimulation, no retrieval, and much less medication. This is one reason freeze-all strategies can be more economical across a full course.

Should I pay for a multi-cycle package?

They can be good value if you are likely to need several cycles, and poor value if the first works. Read what happens if you stop early, what is refunded, and whether medication is included — that last one is where packages most often differ from what people assume.
